Rude Rock Bike Trail is 3 km of epic single track which flows down the contours and tussocky ridge lines from Coronet Peak base building to the top of Skippers Canyon.
Fast, flowing single track with some slightly exposed, steeper sections. The natural kickers can be as big as you want to send them. Less confident riders may find a couple sections of this dark-blue advanced trail challenging however do not let this detour you from giving it a go.
The starting point is near the Coronet Peak base buildings up a short 4WD track. At QBT we offer a range of services which include this iconic trail, from full and half day Shuttles which link to other trails on Coronet Peak, or one way transport options.
Linking Rude Rock with Other Trails:
Rude Rock → Skippers Pack Track
Rude Rock drops you from near the Coronet Peak base station down to Skippers Road. From there, you’ve got choices: finish and shuttle back up, drop in left onto Zoot, or head to the right and drop into the epic Skippers Canyon for a 3.5km flowing downhill. QBT can be there at the end so that you can avoid the return uphill.
Rude Rock → Morning Glory → Hot Rod
This is the classic extension. At the bottom of Rude Rock, cross Coronet Peak Road and roll straight into Hot Rod. Both trails continue the flowy style but with steeper pitches, tighter berms, and more committed speed sections. It feels like Rude Rock’s natural continuation and provides you a whopping 8km of downhill flow.
Rude Rock → Zoot → Carry On
If you want to keep descending on something a bit spicier, take the short ride up Skippers road and drop into Zoot, which has a very similar ride feel to Rude Rock. Cross Coronet Peak Road and drop into the epic Carry On for your final descent. Carry On mixes flowy machine-built sections with technical rock gardens, drops, and multiple line choices, a real “all-mountain” style trail that finishes on the cycleway at the base of Coronet Peak. This sequence is one of our most popular shuttle options.
Rude Rock → Zoot → Lower Zoot (Groot) → Carry On
A similar sequence to the ride above, this incorporates Lower Zoot trail also known as Groot. Just before Zoot drops into Coronet Peak Road, keeping right along the trail leads you into this traverse trail with a small climb to start it off but the perfect gradient for fun flow for the remainder. At trail end it is a short climb back up the road to drop into Carry On, or our team can meet you there if you prefer to save your legs for the descents.
Big Mission: Rude Rock → Morning Glory → Hot Rod → Coronet Face Water Race → Bush Creek (to Arrowtown)
For a full mission, instead of taking Carry On or Hot Rod to the base of Coronet Peak for pickup. Peel off from Rot Rod and traverse along the Coronet Face Water Race before dropping into Bush Creek, an extraordinary backcountry trail which features a huge alpine-to-valley descent, flow, tech, forest, and creek crossings. It’s one of the classic long runs in the region and has the added bonus of finishing in the historic gold mining village of Arrowtown along with it’s excellent Pubs and Eateries where we can meet to transport you home (after a beer of course).
